Highland Telephone Cooperative was formed in 1955 and will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2005 when several community and business leaders one of which was Senator Howard H. Baker got together and formed a cooperative rather than a corporation that would allow ownership its members.
Originally HTC had 1,000 members today we have more than 28,000 members. We employ 83 people and are growing.
As technology advances, Highland Telephone Cooperative provides the most up-to-date, state-of-the-art services for our members offering all fiber-optic fed network and a communication system that meets the highest standards.
As a way of branching out and providing more services to its members, in 1996 Highland Communications, a wholly owned subsidiary of Highland Telephone Cooperative was formed. Highland Communications offers Internet, long-distance, cell phones, paging and more.
An eleven (11) person Board of Directors that is elected by its members governs Highland Telephone Cooperative.
HTC is preparing for the future by investing in the best equipment and by meeting our customers demands. The hard work and determination of our employees working together prepares us to meet the needs of our customers and be ready to face the future to keep Highland Telephone growing.

Highland Communications Corporation was established as a wholly owned subsidiary of Highland Telephone in 1996. Following the Equal Access Act, customers were offered the opportunity to choose the long distance carrier of their choice.
Highland Telephone felt that their customers should have a chance to choose a "local" long distance carrier partnered with their local service. Since then our customer base has grown to be the largest provider of long distance service in our area and we hope it will continue to grow. We constantly try to provide new services that will be beneficial to our customers. Highland Communications Corporation has two locations to serve you.
