According to census data between 1960 and 1970 Scott County lost population. The population loss can be attributed to the migration of the population out of the area. This out-migration was due to limited employment opportunities. However, there was a strong shift in population during the 1970s. The 1980 census showed a gained in Scott County population of 4,497 people a percentage increase of 27.1%. This growth in population was attributed to the strong revitalization of the local economy and retirees moving back to their hometown. The 1990 census characterized a 49.2% for males and 50.8% females.
Scott County experienced additional growth between 1990 and 2000, a growth of 15.1% .
